Israel fires on Lebanon UN peacekeeping headquarters again, says source

Israeli forces fired at a watchtower used by UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon on Friday, injuring two, a UN source said, the third day in a row peacekeepers have reported Israeli fire at their positions as Israel wages war on Hezbollah.
The source said the UNIFIL peacekeeper tower which came under Israeli fire on Friday is located at the force’s main base in Naqoura.
One of the injured peacekeepers was taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Tyre, while the other was treated at the site.
UNIFIL said an Israeli army bulldozer hit the perimeter of another of its positions in southern Lebanon while Israeli tanks moved nearby. Additional peacekeepers were sent to reinforce the position, it said.
It slammed Israel’s acts as a “grave violation” of international humanitarian law and UN Resolution 1701, which was passed by the UN Security Council in 2006 and is aimed at ending hostilities between Israel and the Iranian-aligned Hezbollah militant group.
The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
